Gearbox Could Be Developing A New Franchise Releasing By April 2022 According To Take-Two

Take-Two has revealed some interesting details in its latest financial results earnings call and how it has plans to launch a new franchise from Gearbox Software during the next fiscal year.

the company announced it hopes to release 21 games during the current financial year from April 1, 2021, through until March 31, 2022. Out of the 21 games, there will be four "immersive core" games with two of them from already existing franchises. The other two games are completely new IP and CEO Strauss Zelnick comments seem to confirm that one of them is from Gearbox.

No more details were given on the project sadly, hopefully, we'll find out some more details shortly at E3 2021.

I'm personally not a huge fan of Gearbox games but I do hope they end up making some new and fresh and not another Battleborn or Borderlands spin-off game.

Embracer Group acquires Gearbox Software

Embracer Group which was formerly known as THQ Nordic has announced that they've acquired Borderlands creator Gearbox in a deal said to be worth a potential $1.3 billion USD.

In a press release, Embracer said that Gearbox will become a seventh operating group as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company. CEO Randy Pitchford will continue to lead the studio and the 550 employees will all become joint "significant" shareholders in Embracer. The $1.3 USD billion-dollar value of the deal is dependent on performance with $363 million of the value paid upfront and the owners getting just over a billion should the company hit an agreed on six-year performance targets.

Pitchford said in a statement on the acquisition: "The feeling at Gearbox is that we are just getting started and this transaction is not merely a stimulant for the talent of our employee-owned company, but a propellent for the exciting future we have planned."
